7 Days — Visiting Schools, Eating Cupcakes…

What a great day! We visited two schools in Westland and Wayne, Michigan— in and around the hometown of co-author Joe Kelley. We can’t say enough how fortunate we’ve been for the amazing support displayed by these communities. Here are some photos from our day of promoting Casey and Callie Cupcake, which arrives on Amazon NEXT FRIDAY!

These are some loyal friends of Joe… including Paula, who is second from the left. She is the name behind Paula the Pretty in Pink Cupcake in the book!

And here I am, trying to look all cool leaning on the podium.

Going out and reading our books to kids is the highlight of what we do!

And getting them involved is great, too. Here, they are trying to remember three of the different kinds of cupcakes mentioned in the book!

All of the kids were presented with an official sketch from the book— which they can color or frame!

There is never a lack of volunteers!

See what I mean?

You can always count on Joe for a great photo!

At our second school for the day, this student was selected as her classroom’s Crusty! What does that mean? She is friendly, helpful, encouraging, wise… and she tries to promote everyone getting along!

The kids love it when we allow them to do a “crazy face” picture!

I love these photos that people have been sharing on Facebook lately, “if I get 1,000,000 likes…” out of the pure ridiculousness of it all. Here is our version:

Everything Is Ducky… Here in Kentucky.

I apologize in advance for the title of this article. I think I’m clever when I’m clearly not…

Today, we visited Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary school in Lexington, Kentucky.

One thing that we’ve learned on this tour is how to tell what quality of school we are at. When the time for questions-and-answers come, if the kids are engaged, inquisitive and just popping with questions, it’s clear that the teachers are doing their jobs really well.

At a few schools, the teachers themselves didn’t even have any questions! Now, I’m honored if we gave SUCH a good presentation that there just aren’t any questions left to be answered. But that’s impossible. Kids should always have questions— being nosey is a good thing, when it comes to learning.

Anyway, today’s school visit with the kids in Lexington prompted some of the very best questions we’ve received. So I can see why this school received a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award.

If we are planning to visit your school, please talk with the students about our visit prior to our arrival. Discuss with them some questions that they could ask of authors! It really does make the learning experience better for us all…

Here is today’s video update…. be sure to visit tomorrow– we have a day off so we’re exploring the Smoky Mountains.

Take care.

Nick

Back on the Road!

So, we are back on the road!

Our video updates should continue at a regular pace now… because finally I’m feeling better. My round with strep throat and bronchitis made the final part of our last leg pretty brutal. But now I’ve broken out the Vitamin C and hand sanitizer…

The above video slideshow is from school visits in Miamisburg and Centerville, Ohio. These suburbs of Dayton are beautiful— and the kids were as smart as can be.

This week, we visit schools in Lexington, Kentucky and travel through Knoxville and Charlotte before wrapping our week up in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Take some time and encourage someone else today. It’ll feel great!

Later,

Nick
