Day 71 of my Bucket List Photo Challenge!
I’m completely and totally fascinated by the Pope stuff. Let’s be for real— this doesn’t happen all that often and the whole thing is just dripping in such history and mystique.
But my favorite part is the tradition of the black or white smoke. I remember thinking of this during the last Conclave in 2005 (which, by the way, was the first one I was alive for, since I was born in 1982…). All of the technology in the world and they still do this by tradition. Kinda comforting in a way, don’t you think?
Today, I want to blow a little smoke of my own. Here is a funny photo I made to promote my new book, coming out on Friday:
Yeah, I’m blowing smoke, alright.
In all seriousness, however… I’m not Catholic. But I almost was! My Dad was Catholic and my Mom is Lutheran… well, she won. And I was baptized Lutheran. On a recent trip to Rome, I had the opportunity to step inside St. Peter’s Basilica. I’ve never been quite so moved by a religion that’s not my own. More on this trip and this feeling in the coming weeks, but I will leave you with a photo:
I hope they pick a Pope that doesn’t blow smoke. This man has the power to move people so emotionally… and the Catholic Church needs a Pope that can motivate people. Yes, another “rock star” Pope, as corny as that sounds.
We’ll call this one SMOKE and knock it off the list!
Here is the complete list for the month of March:
Ugly Duckling Hat Role Model
Plastered Spring Break Smoke
