Bucket List: Learn Something, Make a Change

I think New Year’s Resolutions are dumb.

Everybody makes them. Everybody quits them.

And so the cycle goes.

Of all my “Bucket List” items that I’m presenting this week, this one is most like a New Year’s Resolution.

This year, I want to learn something new. And, in the process, change some sort of my life.

Whether this means a new job, learning a new skill, returning to an old skill, changing some interpersonal relationships… I haven’t quite figured it out yet.

But I know that my brain is craving some sort of learning opportunity. Perhaps I have grown bored and unchallenged at work. Or maybe it’s something else that is lacking.

Should I pick up a new language? Try kickboxing? LOL. Make a return to yoga? I did that whole thing about ten years ago and loved it.  Apply for several new jobs and just see what happens?

Any suggestions? Anyone?

What can I learn… that will lead to a small change in my life? Or maybe a change in the life of others?

Just to recap…

Bucket List: Go on a “NEW” Cruise

I love me some boats!

Since I was a kid with my parents, I think I’ve been on 11 cruises now.

1. Bahamas on Carnival Fantasy with Parents.

2. Carnival Imagination Western Caribbean with my parents for High School Graduation,

3. Carnival Imagination Cozumel, Mexico with Mike (my best friend from High School, my Mom and Valerie (her best friend from high school) because my Dad had to cancel due to surgery.

4. Carnival Ecstasy with friends to Belize and Key West.

5. Carnival Destiny, Southern Caribbean.

6. Carnival Conquest, Mexican Yucatan.

7. Norwegian Pearl, Western Caribbean (Norwegian never again!)

8. Princess Sapphire, Mexican Riviera

9. Costa Fortuna, Caribbean

10. Celebrity Millennium, Southern Caribbean (Please Celebrity, give me a good deal again!)

11. Coral Princess, Panama Canal

As you can see, I’ve been a lucky boy. But, I’ve been all over the Caribbean and Mexico. Don’t get me wrong! I will never tire of sailing the blue, still seas with a rum drink in my hand.

However, in 2012— I want to sail somewhere NEW! I want to go on a cruise itinerary (no matter the cruise line) that doesn’t repeat more than 50% of the places I’ve already been.

I have some things up my sleeve for April.. we will see if it pans out.

I just went on a Panama Canal cruise… and out of the 7 or so ports, only 2 were repeats. But that was technically in 2011… and I don’t want to cheat!

Here are some photos from the Panama Canal cruise:

I want these pictures all over the world in new places! And I want to start THIS YEAR!

Speaking of these pictures, they deserve stories. I will tell them in the coming weeks.

And I want to sing this song, in every port, Columbia is already done:

Bucket List: Camp… for a Week… with Diverse Friends

Everybody is probably this way.

But, I marvel on an almost-daily basis about the wide range of crazy, nice and diverse friends I am lucky to call friends.

The best thing for me is when these friends happen to come together. I love watching the way they interact. I laugh at the stories they tell. And I relish the new memories that are made when friends cross-breed. I mean, get-together.

So, this bucket list item is going to combine friends… with something else.

I love camping. It just seems like I can never go for more than 1 or 2 days. So this year, I will go camping for a week, with a bunch of friends hopefully joining me.

Last year, we had a “Wig Party” at Put-in-Bay, an island in Lake Erie. If you’ve never been to.. or heard of.. Put-in-bay, there’s a ton to do. Wineries, bars, lighthouses, historical monuments, shopping, great restaurants. And camping.

Here is a YouTube video, showing some highlights of the island.

Anyway, back to the Wig Party! About 20 friends met us on the island for a day of fun— and we all wore wigs! It was a blast and the 2nd Annual Wig Party is scheduled for July!

Here are some Wig Party Pictures:

So here is my Bucket List item for today:

We will be camping at Put-in-Bay from July 8th through the 15th. I want you to join us. I want as many friends as possible to come stay with us or book their own stay for a night or two during our stay. I want my friends to inter-mingle and create a camping experience that I will never forget.

More importantly, I want as many people as possible (strangers, friends, family, blog readers) to join us for our 2nd Annual Wig Party… on Saturday, July 14th, 2012. Mark your calendars now. Come hang out for the day, we will start at the campground and do wineries and pool bars and anything else that pops up.

We will be staying at the State Park… and can have 4 additional people per night in our cabin. First come, first served.

Let me know!
